I mean, all they have to do is pay luxury taxes, and then they can spend a lot. For instance, New York Knicks can pay as much as they want for Lebron James, as long as they are willing to pay taxes to the NBA. Is that right?

Absolutely not.

The NBA has what is called a ‘soft’ salary cap, which means there are several way to go a bit beyond. But most of them involve keeping established players and signing rookies, even if that would push them over. The cap is specifically against wealthy teams simply outbidding others for players like LeBron. Here is a link:

The entire NBA from David Stern to the worst player on the Golden Gates warrior bench is over paid. I am so exhausted of teams threatening and leaving cities because the arenas aren’t good enough. I used to like Seattle, but now the Super Sonics are officially my least favorite in the NBA. Does anyone else feel the same way?

How much they get paid? I do not know. I would suspect it’s like any other job that has a lot of people competing for a high profile spot. Pay will be pretty bad while you work your way up, but if you become one of the very best, then you make a mint.

In China and Japan there are already professional basketball leagues, so surely they have venues. Japan also hosted the FIBA Tournament a couple years ago. There are several leagues in Europe, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find a venue there either. If they were to expand there, it would be nice to see 6-10 teams or so.
