Question by PearApple:
How is the college game different than the NBA?
Specifically, why do players like J.J. Redick, Adam Morrision, and Tyler Hansbrough play superior than nearly everyone in college but become bench players in the NBA? I mean, they competed against future NBA players in college, did not they? So how can one explain this?

——————————————

Answer by Darin (You Cannot Beat L.A.)
well a easy analogy is college basketball is a lot like high school basketball. the nba is a lot like a pick up game

college ball is a grind it out game. teams run plays like a religion and nearly 95% of colege teams have a deap commitment on the defensive end. making the scores lower. also the leading scorer on a college team usually isnt up in the 30′s. they generally average maybe 16 a game. college takes more brains than athletic ability. guys like redick and hansbrough can make up for their lack of athletic capability by using their fundamentals to put themselves above the pack

in the nba you have to be able to jump out of the gym, play solid defense against the guys at your position, knock down an open j,as well as have knowledge about how to play. those are stipulations not a lot of guys coming into the league can do. theres a lot of guys who are athletic like no other but dont have any smarts when it comes to the game, nor can they hit an opne jumper. then theres guys like redick who were tought by the best, good basketball I.Q.,terrific shooter but has no athletic ability, not a solid perimiter defender, and cant create his own shot

——————————————
