FAQ

Question by DanielL:
What are the rules regarding the notification of players in the NBA before they are traded?

I think it is a tiny unethical that NBA players(not sure about other professional sports) are often times not notified until they are traded. I often hear stories about how a player had to find out from someone else other than his coach of team general manager. I was wondering if there are any rules or regulations in the NBA regarding this matter.

Thanks ahead of time.

  1. VP says:

Unless a player has a No-Trade Clause in their contract (as in they can’t be traded without the player’s permission), GMs are free to trade whoever they want without asking the player. Obviously you’d have to tell them afterwards as well.
