I totally agree with Nickster. If you've ever been on the receiving on a dunk like me or Nickster, you'd know the embarrassment, the shame. Interceptions and strike outs happen all the time, but another person jumping over you and/or out muscling you in the air is on a different level. I've dunked on people and let me tell you, it feels good, real good. You feel this superiority, this sense of accomplishment. Its a wonderful thing.

LeBron thinks it is apparently. That's not the first time he got dunked on, better players (but not stars) have slammed it in his face, like Al Harrington, and many more players will dunk on him in the future. I don't think most other players really care as much though the highlights will make them look bad, and besides posterization many times is a result of an attempt to block the dunk (high risk, high reward for fouling a player while he makes the dunk), or a guy who attempted a charge and didn't get the charge.

Getting dunked on is a bit different from interception and strike outs.

A NBA superstar getting posterized doesnt happen very often so when it does its kind of like ooo pwned.

QB getting intercepted happens often, even the best QB in the league average more than 10 interceptions a year.

Baseball, when you take nearly 600-700 at bats a year, and hit at around .300, i mean your bound to get struck out sometimes.

Basically, getting dunked on is the ultimate in your face for basketball. Its like a mid air tea bagging.

what are you talking about?? interceptions and strike outs is like making a shot in basketball... how can u even compare those to a getting dunked on?? getting dunked on is on a whole different level....

the guy who is playing defense thinks he can block the shot but the dunker gets by him and dunks it in his face.... so basically the guy on defense just failed.... BIG time

if u have ever seen an NBA game in person you will know how humiliating it is to get dunked on... those players are hella big and can jump hella high, watching a game in person is a whole different experience... i think you needa do some more research and get outta the house more b4 u start talking son

What up Barracuda,

First i think you can validate your position by telling us whether you've ever been dunked on before. It is a terrible feeling. Players don't play defense "afraid" to get posterized- but when it happens it's just not a good feeling and it is humiliating.

It's how you respond. Like the QB who throws an interception what does he do with his next opportunity. Or the baseball player that strikes out- what does he do the next time he comes up with men in scoring position?

Yes i've been dunked on a few times on the playground and have come back down and nailed a three but i have to admit that getting dunked on is probably a lot worse than having someone drain a three in your face- although on the scoreboard 3 counts more than 2.

In terms of why we "ooh and aww..." it's an exciting thing to watch. We're not awwing about someone being humiliated but unless you're able to do it- you can really appreciate someone who can do it- and it's an amazing thing to watch- assuming you're a fan of basketball.
